Car Sharing in Cyprus: How RideNow Works
Need a car for two hours, not two weeks? Car sharing in Cyprus solves that exact problem. RideNow, part of ASG Group, lets you unlock a car from your phone, drive by the minute, hour or day, and leave the fuel, insurance and paperwork to the app. No rental desk, no daily minimum, no waiting around.
Getting started with RideNow: sign-up and approval
You need three things to start driving with RideNow: a valid ID or passport, a driving licence, and a bank card. Download the RideNow app from the App Store or Google Play, register with these details, and approval usually comes through within one working day.
Once you're approved, there's no separate booking step and no rental desk. Open the app, find the nearest available car, and unlock it. That's the entire process from sign-up to driving.
Table 1 breaks down what you need before you start.
| Requirement | What RideNow asks for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Documents needed | ID or passport, driving licence, bank card | All uploaded in the app at sign-up |
| Approval time | Usually within one working day | Confirmed by email or in-app notification |
| Age-related conditions | No fixed minimum age stated | Under-25s pay higher insurance premiums and can only start rentals between 6am and 9pm |
| Deposit | Not required in most cases | €100 deposit applies for under-21s, drivers with under 12 months' experience, or a poor payment or accident history |
How RideNow pricing works
RideNow prices work one of two ways: pay per minute, or pay a package price. The per-minute model charges a start rate plus a per-minute rate plus a per-kilometre rate. The package model charges a flat price for the trip plus a rate for any kilometres over the package limit.
Both models fold in the same essentials. VAT, third-party liability and CDW Basic Protection are included in every rate, and so is fuel. You never need to refuel the car yourself.
Exact prices are shown in the app only, and they change, so RideNow's pricing page is the place to check current rates before you book, not this article.
| Per-minute model | Package model | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Short, unplanned trips | Longer trips with a known duration |
| Pricing structure | Start rate + per-minute rate + per-kilometre rate | Package price + per-extra-kilometre rate |
| What's included | VAT, TPL, CDW Basic Protection, fuel | VAT, TPL, CDW Basic Protection, fuel |
| Where to check current rates | In-app only | In-app only |
Coverage, deposits and driving in Cyprus with RideNow
RideNow covers the whole of Cyprus except the areas under Turkish occupation in the north. Unpaved roads are fine for up to 2 kilometres, useful for the last stretch to a villa or a beach car park, but RideNow cars aren't built for off-roading beyond that.
No deposit is required for most drivers. A €100 deposit applies if you're under 21, have held your licence for under 12 months, or have a poor payment or accident history on file.
Liability is capped at €1,500 per accident by default. If you want a lower cap, RideNow offers a reduced €99 liability option for an additional fee.
InterCity trips and pink car bonuses
Yes, you can start a trip in one city and end it in another. InterCity trips carry a weekly-changing fee or bonus depending on the route, except for two fixed destinations: Coral Bay and Pano Platres, both a flat €10.
Look out for RideNow's pink cars too. Drop one off in a designated pink parking area and RideNow credits your account €1. Small, but it adds up if you're a regular user.
For everything RideNow offers, download the RideNow app and register today. And if car sharing isn't quite the fit, our complete guide to renting a car in Cyprus and personal and long-term car leasing cover the options beyond car sharing.
